Unable to make money with Valve/Source, the developers moved to a different engine, the Unreal Development Kit(UDK).
Chivalry: The Battle for Agathahttp://www.ChivalrytheGame.com/Camera System:First person by default and I suggest you stay in it. However, if you wish to play in third person, "Create a Listen Server", get into third person, then join a server.
For extreme third person control, download 1337 Board, a hotkeys menu mod:
http://www.moddb.com/mods/elements-o.../1337-board-v7HUD/UI:There's no crosshair, yet if you put your "crosshair" over a player, it'll show you their name. It's a double standard by the developers. It's important to see the name of a player. Be it a team member or enemy. This is why sticking with a teammate the same class as you can confuse the enemy. You can of course, put something in the middle of your screen if you desire. It's really just about seeing the names, as most attacks are based on animation anyways. You could also use +Showscores, as where it shows the class of everyone, it's in the middle.
Player Physics:Stamina Based: +Speed(Sprinting), jumping, attacking, and blocking all use stamina. The lower your stamina, the less damage you do. Running out makes you unable to do anything. If you're out, don't press any button for a second. Otherwise you'll just keep hearing the same sound, "I'm out of stamina!"
Speed is based on direction.
Forward 100
Backwards 50/75
Left/Right 75
+Speed(Sprinting) makes you run, the longer you've been running, the faster you go. Letting go of +Speed or pressing +Back will stop running. If you've been running, you can stand still and have full speed boost by holding +Speed still, keep that in mind. A few classes can run, attack and keep running. That might be server variable based though...
btw +duck will remove your speed if you touch the ground
Bunny-Hopping(Jumping over and over) requires too much stamina. Waste of time, unless you're jumping down a slope.
Slope Jumping is landing/jumping on a slope, aka a hill. You can gain extreme speed if going downhill.
Strafe Jumping(Forward, jump, let go of foward, strafe left or right and aim left or right) allows you to "curve" in the air and gain slight speed.
DuckJump is summed up by the name. You jump higher than a normal jump.
Stealth(No footsteps) requires ducking or strafing. If you turn while strafing, you'll make a sound.
xController Speed Strafing for whatever reason will strafe left/right faster than normal. This worked in servers. Saying that, my controller was lost pretty much right after figuring that out. I'd suggest using an xController and mouse, if you decide to take that path. If you're having troubles setting up the controller, download the 1337 Board hotkeys mod:
http://www.moddb.com/mods/elements-o.../1337-board-v7Melee Combat:Anytime you attack or block, you'll be unable to jump for a full second or so. This can be highly frustrating in many situations, be careful.
Attacking:Attack speed/damage/and animations are all based on your weapon. All attacks can hit multiple players and even go straight through players to hit the player behind them. Once you start an attack, you can change the location/direction of your swing by either moving and/or aiming.
This will allow you to stop yourself from killing a teammate or make an instant/delayed attack. For example, doing an overhead attack and then aiming very high will make for a very long attack. Doing a slice attack and then aiming to the left can make for an instant attack.
Anytime you damage a player, they'll be pushed back. So, hitting first may allow you to avoid the enemy attack.
Finally, anytime you do an attack, you'll be slowed down. So, running at full speed then turning away from the player after an attack is a good idea.
You have three types of attacks:
Slice(Weakest)
Overhead(Normal/Powerful)
Stab(Powerful)Slice attack almost always comes from your right side and swings to your left side. This is an attack that kills countless teammates. This attack is also highly underrated, for the simple fact that you can make it an instant attack by quickly aiming to the left. It also does decent damage, allowing you to finish off a wounded enemy. Finally, sprinting at an enemy, attacking, and turning to run away is most easily done with the slice.
ok one last thing, a player blocking a slice has to either look at you or look in the direction of the attack. I don't have the slightest idea which you have to do, so, if I'm still confused, many players will be too.
Overhead attack should be your main attack for most of the classes/weapons. It does great damage and if you aim up, your attack can be very long. It's easy to turn left or right, in case you're about to smash a teammate...
Stab attack is a must for certain classes/weapons. It does insane damage and can be very difficult to block because of the instant hit, so, even if they block it without a shield, they might still take damage. This attack has the most knockback.
Blocking:Using a shield will block anything in the game(Swords/Arrows) and I doubt you gotta worry about aiming up/down. You'll have to go around the side if you wish to hit a shielding player. If you're lucky you might be able to do a high/low attack, but I highly doubt it. Blocking can be difficult, because players can do instant/delayed attacks. All weapons are based on power scale, meaning if you block with a dagger against a huge axe, you're still gonna take damage. The type of attack matters too. Stab usually takes damage.
Anytime you block an attack, you'll be given an opening to counter-attack. It's a free attack, pretty much. They can sometimes reblock. I don't have the slightest idea how that works. I assume you just go to the far right of them(Their left hand) and hope they do a swing attack.
Block to Dagger Attack:You'll often see players attack, get blocked, then switch to their dagger for a fast attack before the enemy has time to retaliate.
Block to Dagger Block:Same as above, except when you get blocked, you switch to your dagger to block. Say against an maa, you attack, they block, then you switch to your dagger to block their stab.
Block Block:Sometimes you'll block and the enemy didn't actually attack you. So, you switch to your dagger for a second block if you think they waited for your first block.
Ranged/Throwing Weapons:Ranged weapons can only be blocked via a shield. I've heard oilpots can be hit with ranged weapons like throwing daggers. Oilpots are unblockable. Mainly you need to worry about the slow weapon switching from ranged weapon to melee weapon. Crusaders and knights have major issues with this, so, you need to decide if you want one/two/or three knives to throw.
I'd suggest all new players to throw away one knife early, so, they don't get caught weapon switching. A heavy knight will run right at you the second you switch to a dagger. So, use them from a good distance or save them for the very end. Heavy knights are rather fast at switching weapons and can switch after throwing one, so, this class uses such ability to lower stamina on shield users.
Classes:Heavy Knight:hk has a super quick overhead which is a one/two hit kill. Throwing axes do plenty of damage and can somewhat weapon switch fast. hk should stamina drain a sader/knight.
Knights:Mad armor and a shield. Have an instand stab attack that does a 360.
Crusader:n00bSader has a few tricks and IMO one of the more fun classes to play. You're gonna have a difficult time vs hk/maa and probably a knight.
Guardsman: (Dude with long stick)
Stab attack is super deadly. Even if blocked they take damage. This class has an animation bug, when in doubt, BLOCK!
Archer:Animation seems off. Just pretend they're always about to shoot. Keep running in whichever direction. If you shield to them, they usually pull their sword quicker than you can attack, so, might wanna keep slight distance if you think that's what's going to happen.
Crossbowman:Sometimes after a reload they get really scared and will shoot right away. You can sometimes dodge left or right before this happens. On a reload this class can sometimes be easy to hit with your ranged weapons.
Strategy:I couldn't give two poops about the objectives in this game. I run around in circles smashing faces. Whatever floats your boat though. Try and avoid their spawn while luring players into yours. Because you're unable to jump after blocking or attacking, plan ahead to jump on something or just over it. You don't wanna get caught fighting more than one player and you don't want to get stuck being shot by an archer. Jumping on something may even allow you to jump on or over a player's head. The only thing you really need to worry about is if they do an overhead. Note, if you're above a player, standing and attacking won't hit them. You have to duck.
A duckjump can sometimes grant you the ability to jump over a stab. Players are usually "spinning" and don't expect a duckjump. Jumping can scare an enemy into making an action. I'll usually run at them and jump, but don't get too close. They attack, leaving them open. Also, jumping and then attacking delays your attack slightly, making it difficult to block as they already starte to block when you jumped.
Stop paying attention to chat. A lot of players will try and get you into a silly 1vs1. This isn't a 1vs1 game, they're just being beat down and cannot handle it. They're trying to make you do a predictable battle. They're also tired of getting smacked and then you just waiting for an archer to finish them off. They're unable to come at you, because your team is chillin next to you. You're unable to come at them, because their teammates aren't far behind them. If you have a teammate, flank around them. Use some stamina to get behind them. They'll be forced to make a move against your teammate, allowing you to flank. Don't stay near your teammate. They will hit you with a swing. Always.
The most annoying thing in the entire game are people blocking. Stay three/four feet away from a teammate. Be ready to go backwards, or spin running forward. Movement is very slow in this game. Player hitboxes are wide, making it difficult to go around players. If touching another player, your screen can go crazy. Stop touching teammates. Stop blocking doors. Let the players in front of you move, give them breathing room.
Why is this game dead online?Developers unable to make money will only do so much for their "product or service". A quality team like Team Chivalry decided this was completly stupid and more than likely got tired of being used by Valve. Wasting such time usually gains you some knowledge, so, their next product will show in quality. Able to make money from their next product, they have very little reason to support this one.
Players attacking their team at a constant basis. By mistake or players just doing it because they can. As far as I'm aware, Source lacks anti-tk, so, you rely on admins.
Players blocking eachother at a constant basis. Super wide hitboxes, slow movement, "Melee 30 yard range combat", one path chokepoint levels, etc...
Dog crap player physics. You cannot jump for a whole second after blocking or attacking, making skilled players quite annoyed.
Levels are either cramped, too open, force one team into "FPS lagg" situation, have only one choke point, objectives that can be done by a shield user, have one team jump off of a wall and unable to go back(creating many archers), unable to do a round restart, levels change quickly.
Known BugZ:Game crashes on startup. Simply put, when the game loads, it shows you a video. Hit Escape on the keyboard or watch the entire video... If you don't want the video to play at all, load Steam, show the "Library" page, right click Age of Chivalry, Properties, Set Launch Items, and then put, -novid
Half the screen is darker than the other. Simply use 1024/768 resolution or lower in-game. I believe if you keep playing at a higher res, it'll eventually go away. Consider it a free "half-crosshair".
Jumping and getting hit with ranged weapons sometimes flings you fast and far.
Players get stuck on eachother... Another reason to stay three/four feet away from eachother. I think you can hit your teammate off of you or just kill them ^^
My screen shakes and goes all crazy when touching a teammate: Wide hitboxes and InterwebZ, stay away from your team!
Animations: Heavy knights, guardsman, etc don't play animations sometimes. When in doubt, BLOCK!
Moving ladders act all crazy, simply jump or duck/jump to keep going up
